Steve Jobs Offers $100 Refund For iPhone Price Cut
In the previous post, we knew that Apple dropped $200 for its 8G iPhone from $599 to $399 in a rare movement on Wednesday. Today Thursday the company's CEO Steve Jobs apologized and offered the refund
of the price difference to those customers who bought an iPhone within 14 days and had the original receipt. For those not eligible for a rebate, Apple will hand out $100 credits for Apple's retail and online stores to them for any future purchase.

George Hotz Owns a Nissan Car for Hacking iPhone Efforts
George Hotz, the New Jersey teenager, who hacked Apple's iPhone to work on any other wireless networks besides AT&T's (visit iPhone JTAG for detailed tutorials), is going to get his wish to have a car and 3 new 8 GB iPhones ! Excerpts from Mercury News:
George Hotz, who last week found a way to manipulate Apple's new cell phone so that it will work on other networks besides AT&T's, is trading one of the two phones he hacked for a new car. And, as Hotz would put it, it's a "sweet" one at that, a Nissan 350Z.
"This has been a great end to a great summer," Hotz wrote on his blog.
The teen said he is trading the iPhone to Terry Daidone, co-founder of CertiCell, a Louisville, Ky-based mobile phone repair company. In exchange, Daidone is going to buy him the car and will give him three brand new iPhones, which Hotz plans to hand out to members of his informal team that helped crack the iPhone.
As part of the deal, Hotz will have a paid consulting job for CertiCell. He plans to visit the company's Kentucky offices later this week to demonstrate his iPhone hack in person.
The 17-year-old boy is so admirable!

World's Smallest Single-chip CMOS Camera
The British company TDC has recently introduced the smallest-ever single-chip CMOS camera, whose new OV6920 CameraChip is the world's first 1/18-inch (1.4mm) sensor. Supplied in a tiny 2.1 x 2.3mm chip-scale package, the device enables microscopic camera modules to be developed just 3.2mm in diameter.
With a total array size of 328 x 250, the OV6920 features SCCB-configurable automatic control of colour saturation, exposure, gain and gamma curve, together with aperture correction function. It only requires a clock and power to obtain an NTSC (320 x 240) composite signal output with a direct interface to VCRs and monitors.
But because of its negligible size, we will inevitably be careful to prevent peeping as if it is used by the bad hands.

S116, World's First Solar-Powered Handphone
Beijing-based Hi-Tech Wealth Inc. spent seven years developing what the company claimed as world's first solar-powered handphone, S116, which can transform light into electricity and stores it in its lithium battery.
A one-hour exposure to sunlight can power 40 minutes of talk time. When the stored electricity is finished, another five-minute sunlight-recharge lets the phone work as normal.
The gadget also works in weaker light such as indoors and by candle light.
Zhang Zhengyu, Hi-Tech Wealth chief executive, says the invention could reduce environmental pollution caused by used batteries.
He also claims the solar-powered battery has a longer lifespan than traditional types.
The mobile phone sells for 3,980 yuan (US$521). Source: CRI
