Largest Yellow Colored Diamond in China

The Heart of Fire PhoenixA rarely seen huge yellow diamond was put on display in Guangzhou city, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province on Monday September 3. It's so far the largest yellow coloured diamond that can be seen in China . The 20.58-carat diamond, named "The Heart of Fire Phoenix" (火凤之心), is priced at about 10 million yuan, or 1.3 million US dollars.

Lullaby Spring's Damien Hirst Sells Diamonds Encrusted Platinum Skull for $100 million

Damien Hirst , is once notorious for the conceptual works in which creatures including a shark and a cow were pickled in formaldehyde inside glass tanks, but now he possibly gains much more fames than any living artists. First, his Lullaby Spring, a three-metre (10-foot) wide steel cabinet containing 6,136 hand-crafted and individually-painted pills, sold for 19.2 million dollars, makes him a priciest living artist. Now his  "For the Love of God"--an 18th-century European male skull cast in platinum and encrusted with 8,601 diamonds, including a large pink diamond worth more than $8 million in the center of its forehead, is sold for $100M or £50M. This gold bra which is currently displayed on a Beijing exhibition , is made of 630 grams of gold, 7.5 carats of South Africa diamonds, and numerous precious golden gem stones. It took craftsmen over 2,000 hours to make it. Sure, it is much cheaper when compared to this world's most expensive bra. Link

China's first golden bars that are designed as birthday presents for the elderly

I am considering to buy one for my grandma's 80 years old birthday when I am back to China later this year.

China's first golden bars that are designed as birthday presents for the elderly were put on the market on Wednesday August 29.

China issued a limited edition of 999 sets of such golden bars priced at 199 yuan, or 26 U.S. dollars per gram. Every set of the bars, made from pure gold, includes four pieces of bars weighting at 30, 50, 100 and 200 grams. Each set also has its corresponding limited number and license.

The front of the bar has sixty different Chinese characters of "Shou", which means longevity in Chinese. The back has the work from the most noted contemporary Chinese painter, Qi Baishi's "Peach", which is also offered as a birthday present in China.

World's Oldest Diamonds Discovered

World's Oldest Diamonds Found, Trapped in ZicronThe 4.25 billion years old diamonds were discovered encased in a crystal in Western Australia by scientists lead by Simon Wilde, a geologist at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia.

The tiny diamonds were found trapped in zircon, a rare and exceptionally stable mineral that forms under temperatures between 1,112 and 1,652 Fahrenheit (600 and 900 degrees Celsius). Source: National Geographic via SN

13-year-old Girl Finds 2.93-carat Diamond in the Park

Pathfinder DiamondCrater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansass is the world's only diamond-producing site open to the public and visitors are allowed to keep the gems they find. On June 5, a girl named Nicole Ruhter from Montana has been one of those lucky persons. Walking along a path taken by thousands of others at the park, the 13-year-old found something everyone else had missed -- a tea-colored, 2.93-carat diamond which was later named as "Pathfinder Diamond". Human Skull Made from Diamonds and Platinum

The scarey-looking but diamond-encrusted platinum cast humanskull is made by British artist Damien Hirst. When asking how much, you probably can't afford. It has a price tag of  US$98 million.

A 2.2-ton-heavy jade bowl decorated with pattern of nine-dragons was on display in Tongzhou District of Beijing. It is the biggest jade bowl ever, with a diameter of 2.2 m. The previous biggest jade bowl is the Dushan Jade Bowl in Beihai Park in Beijing, made in 1265. Shang Wenzhong, the famous sculptor, designed and made the new biggest jade bowl, with the Nine Dragon Wall in the Forbidden City as a major source of inspiration.

Arco Valley Pearl, World's Largest Transactioned PearlArco Valley Pearl is the biggest pearl for sale in the world, but not the largest in size. The 9.45 inch Pearl of Allah found by a diver off the Philippine island of Palawan in 1934 carries that title.
The "Arco Valley Pearl", 3.1 inches in length, will be up for bidding at Abu Dhabi's Emirates Palace and on the Internet, where it is estimated to fetch up to $8 million.

The value of the saltwater pearl is based on its size, color, weight, exclusivity, history and records of what people have been prepared to pay for similar precious items.

The 575-carat pearl from 12th century Mongolia once belonged to Chinese emperors, Persian kings, the grandson of Genghis Khan and Marco Polo.

Osama bin Laden once tried to purchase the Pearl for $60 million to give to Saddam Hussein as an overture of unity between al-Qaida and the Iraqi government. Its 2006 appraised value is $61,850,000.
The Pearl of Allah [also refer to as Pearl of Lao Tzu], the largest pearl on record, was recovered from a giant clam on May 7, 1934, off the coast of Palawan Island, Philippines. The pearl is 9.4 inches long and weighs about 14 lbs (6.4kg). The Muslim diver who found the pearl said its surface bore the image of a turbaned face, and he named it the Pearl of Allah.

A Precious 'Hair-growing' Stone

Update: From the People Daily, the "white hair" growing is a kind of halobios that has been attached to the stone for hundreds of millions of years. It gradually extends upright and evolves as hollow-pipe-shaped invertebrate fossil.

Have you mouth-watered at the first sight of the chicken at the plate above? If yes, you are totally understandable, because the "braised chicken" carved from a kind of jade stone called Shou San Shi looks so lifelike. It was once displayed in Qilu Jewellery Shop of Jinan City, Shandong Province of China. The sculputure with a weight of around 2, 200 g was priced at 280, 000 Yuan (1USD = 7.8 Yuan).
