On the ongoing 3rd China Jilin - Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo, Ginger King of Changbai Mountain, a 300-year-old ginger unearthed in Wusong County of Jilin Province earlier this year, was auctioned at a baseline price of RMB10,000,000, or around US$1,300,000, but nobody bid it. Largest Yellow Colored Diamond in China

A rarely seen huge yellow diamond was put on display in Guangzhou city, capital of southern China's Guangdong Province on Monday September 3. It's so far the largest yellow coloured diamond that can be seen in China . The 20.58-carat diamond, named "The Heart of Fire Phoenix" (火凤之心), is priced at about 10 million yuan, or 1.3 million US dollars.

First, his Lullaby Spring, a three-metre (10-foot) wide steel cabinet containing 6,136 hand-crafted and individually-painted pills, sold for 19.2 million dollars, makes him a priciest living artist. Lullaby Spring, is a three-metre-wide steel pill cabinet containing 6136 hand-crafted and individually painted pills by UK's bad-boy (also wealthiest) artist Damien Hirst, the man who created the diamonds encrusted platinum human skull. It was auctioned off for £9,700,000 million, including commission, on a June auction in London's Sotheby, which enough made Damien Hirst become the auction world's priciest living artist.

This is a view of the Biltmore house from the Esplanade which is probably about 1/4 mile from the house. How would you like to mow that lawn? The size of the living space in the house is about 4 acres and it is the largest private residence in the U.S. It was built by George Vanderbilt who inherited a vast fortune. His grandfather Cornelius amassed the unheard of $150 million in shipping and railroads. Cornelius' son doubled the fortune to $300 million which in today's money would be worth about 90 some odd billion if I heard the tape correctly. But they had no sinks in the 43 bathrooms even if they had the then new commodes.

It is the two-level, 33,500-square-foot (3,110-square-meter) basement complex, complete with a 103-seat movie theater, ticket booth, concession stand, game room and music annex, that will make it the largest occupied single-family home in the New England states in the northeast U.S.
At nearly 50,900 square feet (4,730 square meters), the Chase home will be slightly larger than billionaire Bill Gates' home in Washington state, about 4,000 square feet (372 square meters) smaller than the White House and 20 times larger than the average-size home in America.
Besides the two-tiered movie theater, soda fountain and men's and women's bathrooms, the Chase home will include a 400-square-foot (37-square-meter) "observatory," five bedrooms, eight full bathrooms and five half bathrooms, according to documents filed with the West Hartford planning office. The game room, in the "upper" basement, will take up nearly 4,900 square feet (455 square meters) — nearly twice as big as the average-size house.

China Issues Golden Bar for Grandparent's Birthday

I am considering to buy one for my grandma's 80 years old birthday when I am back to China later this year.

China's first golden bars that are designed as birthday presents for the elderly were put on the market on Wednesday August 29.

China issued a limited edition of 999 sets of such golden bars priced at 199 yuan, or 26 U.S. dollars per gram. Every set of the bars, made from pure gold, includes four pieces of bars weighting at 30, 50, 100 and 200 grams. Each set also has its corresponding limited number and license.

The front of the bar has sixty different Chinese characters of "Shou", which means longevity in Chinese. The back has the work from the most noted contemporary Chinese painter, Qi Baishi's "Peach", which is also offered as a birthday present in China.

San Diego Mansion Tippett Hall Sold for Record $76 Million

The venture capitalist Bill Stensrud and his wife, Carol bought what was called Tippett Hall in San Diego in 2000 for a mere $25 million and now the couple are selling their 10,000 square foot oceanfront pad on the market for a cool $76 million, a record price for a residential listing in the exclusive Del Mar area of California.

Napoleon's Sword Auctioned Off for More Than $6.4M

A sword once given as a wedding gift in 1805 to his brother by Napoleon sells for more than $6.4M at an auction house in Paris. The buyer was not identified.

The sword was carried by Napoleon — who was not yet emperor — into the Battle of Marengo in June 1800, when he launched a surprise attack to push the Austrian army from Italy and seal France's victory.
