HEISMAN TROPHY

2009 Heisman Candidate Finalist Profiles
JOHN HEISMAN
Colt McCoy Heisman 2009 Preview:
Many Heisman pundits believe that Colt
McCoy was one play away from the Heisman Trophy and a national championship shot in
2008. The Horns last second loss to Texas Tech proved to be costly and expect UT to be
mission focused in 2009. Not only did McCoy throw for an incredible 3,859 yards and 34 TD's in 2008, but he led UT

in rushing as well. On the ground McCoy added 561 yards and 11 scores. 12/5 Update: In a 13-12 last second win over Nebraska, McCoy completed 20 of 34
passes for 184 yards and 3 TD's. McCoy was held to (-17) yards rushing, but scored a TD on the ground.

Key stats thru 12/5: Pass: 330 of 468 (70.5%) for 3,512 yards, 27 TD's, 12 INT's. Rush: 368 yards rushing and 2 TD's. (Note) McCoy finished 2008 with 561 yards rushing and 11 TD's.

Heisman Bullets thru 12/5: McCoy guided Texas to an undefeated season and is now poised to play Bama in the National championship game. Although McCoy and the Texas offense struggled against Nebraska, the Texas QB still came on strong at the end of the year. Prior to the Big 12 title game, McCoy improved his lagging passing stats with 300+ yards
passing in 3 of the last 4 weeks. He has also added 12 TD passes in the last 4 games. McCoy is the all-time career wins leader in FBS history, passing Georgia's David Greene in mid-November. McCoy finished 3rd in the nation in completion Pct. and 6th in passing yards and 8th nationally in TD passes.

McCoy's epic performance against Texas A&M on Thanksgiving night created a great amount of Heisman synergy. It was an epic performance on a prime time national stage that saw McCoy post incredible stats while displaying tremendous leadership, heart and toughness.

Heisman Hurdles thru 12/5: McCoy's biggest concern are his diminished stats compared to 2008 where he threw fewer TD's and more INT's. McCoy also ran for fewer yards. Nebraska's defensive effort stymied McCoy nearly the whole game. As good as he looked
against Texas A&M, he seemed to struggle against the Huskers nearly as much.
