Sonya Thomas, Winner of Chicken-wing Eating at National Buffalo Wing Festival

, 40, of Virginia's Alexandria, won the wing-eating contest at the National Buffalo Wing Festival held in Buffalo, N.Y. by scarfing 173 wings (weighing 5.17 pounds) in 12 minutes on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007.

Thomas has set numerous records in competitive eating events, including 37 hot dogs in 12 minutes; 35 bratwursts in 10 minutes; 11 pounds of cheesecake in 9 minutes; 44 lobsters in 12 minutes; and 250 Tater Tots in 5 minutes.

She is ranked No. 5 by the International Federation of Competitive Eating.

15 Thousand People Eat Lobster Together

Some 15,000 get together to eat lobster at a feast during The Seventh China Lobster Festival (which is held from June 11 to 28) in Xuyi County of Jiangsu Province on June 12. People devoured nearly ten tons of lobster made by about 500 cooks during the feast. If you are Chinese-savvy, 52xuyi is a dedidated site to the festival.

A few notes. Actually the 'lobster' referred here is not the clawed lobster that lives in the sea, but a freshwater crayfish: Procambarus Clarkii, which can commomly be found in the place where has the water. Xuyi, is a less developed county with numerous large or middle-scale lakes in my home province Jiangsu, but the crawfish produced from this county has won great fames and made vast revenues from home and abroad. Nowadays even when you are travels in big cities in the province like Nanjing, Wuxi or Xuzhou etc., you can always find Some Xuyi Lobster Restaurants.

Oscar-winner Actress Jane Fonda Honoured by Cannes

The 60th Cannes film festival, which ended on Sunday, May 28, awarded a Palme d'Or for lifetime achievement to veteran US actress and activist Jane Fonda over the weekend.
The exceptional Golden Palm prize, awarded by festival chief Gilles Jacob, had only been awarded three times before since 1946, to French directors Alain Resnais and Gerard Oury and the French actress Jeanne Moreau.
Jacob presented the surprise honour at a dinner after a screening of Sidney Lumet's classic 12 Angry Men as a tribute to her late father Henry, who died in 1982.
"I never imagined that the Cannes film festival would honour a person who was spied on and tracked by the FBI, a person who has a 20 000-page file," Jacob noted with a touch of irony, referring to her campaign against the Vietnam war, and later the US invasion of Iraq.

But she possibably felt somewhat embarrassed during the closing ceremony when she was seen wearing the exact same dressing (picture above)as the one that Anne Consigny wore some days earlier in the festival. links: 24.com | Qianlong

Bun Scrambling Competition in Hong Kong

Bun Scrambling Competition is an annual fun sport held on the Cheung Chau Island of Hong Kong in each year's May. Competitors are required to climb a tall bamboo tower studded with thousands of 'lucky buns' during this midnight mountaineering adventure and the one who, in three minutes, grabs the buns with the highest total score will be the winner.

The two-century-old bun-scrambling festival was once stopped 27 years starting from 1978 when more than 100 people were injured after one of the towers collapsed. It was only resumed in 2005. Links 1, 2, 3, 4

Taste Deep-fried Testicles at Wisconsin Festival

Wisconsinites have deep-fried cheese curds, candy bars and Twinkies. They now have deep-fried livestock testicles, too.

More than 300 people paid $5 for all-you-can-eat goat, lamb and bull testicles at the ninth annual Testicle Festival at Mama's Place Bar and Grill in Elderon in central Wisconsin.

"Once you get over the mental (aspect) of what you're eating, it's just like eating any other food, and it tastes good," Buster Hoffman said.
